On February 2, 2018, which is the day celebrating the double Feast of the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple and the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary (also called Candlemas), there will occur throughout the  United States the gathering of faithful in their parish churches  to pray the Rosary for the intention of the Purification of the Church, and the Triumph of the Light of Christ over all sin and error.
The Presentation celebrates the coming of Jesus Christ, the Light of the World, into His Temple. It is, in fact, the premier Feast of Light¸ and the Triumph of Light over the Darkness of Evil. Traditionally called Candlemas, it signifies the “success” and triumph of the Incarnation, has been traditionally celebrated with triumphal candlelight processions, and is the liturgical day designated for the blessing of candles.

The Church has now been penetrated by a darkness greater than at any time in its history – not only the darkness of sexual sins and other moral “filth”, but that which consists of every conceivable form of error masking itself as truth, and of darkness masquerading as light. The task of unmasking these “thoughts”, and thus paving the way to the Triumph of the Truth of Christ, has been entrusted to Mary. Most specifically, it has been entrusted to Our Lady of the Rosary. St. Paul writes, “The night is passed, and the day is at hand. Let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and put on the armor of light.” The Rosary, as revealed in the messages of Our Lady of Fatima, is this armor of light possessing the power from God to cast off the works of darkness which now pervade the Church, the world, and especially the minds and hearts of individual Catholics.

The chief exorcist of the Philippines has warned that “Illuminati satanists” are distributing cursed rosaries to unsuspecting Catholics.

Father Ambrosio Nonato Legaspi made the claim on Novaliches’ Radio Veritas show Hello Father 911. A report on the show was carried on the news site of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines.

He said: “Listeners, be careful as the rosaries you might be using could actually be infested or cursed!”

The priest claimed that the rosaries were being given away by satanists, acting as part of a shadowy group called the Iluminati.
He said that the satanists had “prayed over” the rosaries to consecrate them to evil. Whoever then used them, he warned, would be  “followed by evil spirits” as a result.

 Speaking on the same show, Philippe De Guzman of the Diocese of Novaliches Office of Exorcism said the rosaries contained hidden symbols. These include such things as sunbursts, pentagrams and snakes, he claimed.

I don't know. All I see is an image of what looks like Pope Clement XIV.

Washington D.C., Dec 15, 2016 / 03:05 am (CNA/EWTN News).- You might have seen an Army chaplain devoutly praying the rosary on the sideline during Saturday's Army-Navy football game. Who was he and what was he praying for? 

“I always pray for both our teams, for no serious injury on either team. And I pray for the kids on both teams, and just for their holiness and their salvation,” Fr. Matthew Pawlikowski, chaplain of the United States Military Academy at West Point, told CNA. 

“And then I ask for Army's victory,” he added. 

While he has been the senior chaplain at West Point for two years – the first Catholic to hold the position – Fr. Pawlikowski has actually been serving as an active-duty Army chaplain since 2000.

“I love being a priest. And I love being a priest for soldiers. It is a great life. It's a manly life. It's satisfying,” he told CNA. 

Interestingly, the stock photo of the rosary in the article looks like a combat rosary. Not so much  crucifix, but the beads.

In the Big Inning...

Baseball fans across the country were saddened at the end of an era on Oct. 3, when Vin Scully, the voice of Dodgers’ baseball for the past 67 seasons, signed off for the last time, calling the San Francisco Giants’ 7-1 victory over Los Angeles in the city by the bay.

But the man known as the voice of baseball is back, this time lending his voice to an audio recording, “The Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary,” produced by the group Catholic Athletes for Christ in collaboration with Immaculate Heart Radio.

For Catholics who are baseball fans, it’s basically the answer to a prayer.

Here is something extremely cool.

First, you may recall that last year we had a project to help one of the Swiss Guard have custom armor made.  HERE   I’ve stayed in touch with the Guard and his wife.

Then I got another project going, with the essential aid of my good friend Fr. Richard Heilman, who has been featured in these electronic pages often.   He took his parish to ad orientem worship and the numbers of attendants increased.  He put in an altar rail and moved his people to receive on the tongue.  He implemented Summorum Pontificum.  We just had the bishop there for Ascension Thursday.  He is the state chaplain of the Knights of Columbus and has many other things going, including something advertised on this blog on the side bar, his “combat” Rosaries, which he has made.  Super-tough Rosaries.

 Now to the project.

At my prompting Fr. Heilman sent the gun-metal rosaries to all of the Swiss Guards.
Today, during his address to the new recruits about to be sworn in, the Commandant held up one of them during his address and told them that training and arms are necessary, but “the most important weapon is the ‘combat rosary'”.

Now You Tell Me

Today, after contemplating the Luminous Mysteries, I began to wonder about indulgences for saying the rosary. Here's the list:

A Plenary Indulgence...
may be gained (under the usual conditions) when the Rosary is prayed in Church, in a family group or in a religious community. Also:

• Five (5) decades of the Rosary must be prayed continuously.
  
• The prayers of the Rosary must be prayed vocally and one must meditate upon the Mysteries of the Rosary.
  
• If the recitation of the Rosary is public, the Mysteries of the Rosary must be announced.

A Partial Indulgence...
One may gain a partial indulgence for the Rosary's recitation in whole or in part in other circumstances.
A Plenary Indulgence...
can be gained only once a day (except by those who are in danger of death.)
* to gain a plenary indulgence one must perform the indulgenced act. Three other conditions must be fulfilled:

1. A sacramental confession
   
2. Eucharistic Communion
   
3. Prayers for the Pope's intentions

In addition, one must be free of all attachments to sin, even venial sin. If this complete integrity is not present or if the above conditions are not fulfilled the indulgence is only partial. Both a plenary and partial indulgence may be applied to the dead.

The largest jackpot in Vatican history — now an estimated 700 million indulgences – will be up for grabs in Saturday night’s drawing after no one produced the combination of 40, 33, 12, 10, 3 and the Powerball of 7 to win Wednesday night’s 524 million indulgence jackpot.

The jackpot would have had an estimated value of about 157,200 “days” off purgatory, according to the Vatican’s Powerball website. The final “take-home” amount depends on an individual’s state in life, Malinda Totti, the executive director of the Vatican Lottery, told EOTT.
The largest Vatican indulgence jackpot to date was won in three countries in April 2012, when the Mega Millions Rosaries drawing reached a whopping 656 million rosaries said on behalf of the winners.
In the past 13 years, 16 Indulgence Powerball winners have either bought their tickets in Malta or the Philippines, more than any other countries.
Winners are advised to sign the lottery ticket as soon as they get the chance. A baptismal certificate and proof of confirmation, along with the signed ticket, are required to claim the indulgences.
Totti went on to caution winners about the temptation of abusing their new-found spiritual wealth, saying that some past winners have squandered their extra-sacramental remission of temporal punishment within just a few years after winning.
