The President on Drugs

Killing a unborn baby is a decision made solely by a woman and her doctor. Taking hydroxychloroquine is a joint decision between a man, his doctor, every Democrat in congress, and all on-air talent at CNN.

(Noted Theologian) Nancy Pelosi has led a chorus of surprise and alarm after Donald Trump said he was taking the malaria drug hydroxychloroquine to ward off coronavirus.
Trump’s own government has warned that the drug should only be administered for Covid-19 in a hospital or research setting due to potentially fatal side effects.
The US House Speaker did not mince her words when she was asked on CNN about the president’s decision.
“He’s our president, and I would rather he not be taking something that has not been approved by the scientists, especially in his age group and his, shall we say, weight group ... morbidly obese, they say,” she said.

Bishops With Chests

Not ours, of course.

Archbishop Robert J. Carlson Grants General Permission to Resume Public Masses Beginning May 18

The Decision to Begin Holding Public Masses at the Discretion of Each Parish Pastor

The Most Reverend Robert J.Carlson, Archbishop of St. Louis, has announced that parishes in the Archdiocese of St. Louis are permitted to begin resuming public Masses on Monday, May 18, at the discretion of each individual parish pastor. This decision, along with the accompanying policy and guidelines that will be provided to all parishes early next week, follows much work and consultation with the archdiocesan Presbyteral Council, the Missouri bishops and civil authorities. That collaboration will continue through May 18 and beyond, with decisions subject to change based on any new data provided by health officials.

The Drive-In Movie at St. Francis de Sales in Norton Shores, MI Has Been Cancelled Until Further Notice

This Just In...Bishop Gregory Thinks Shooting People and Racism is Bad!

And going to Mass. Because he cancelled them all.

.- Archbishop Wilton Gregory of Washington, D.C., has spoken out against the “murderous attack” which caused the death of Ahmaud Arbery in Georgia. The archbishop said the killing was a reminder that racism is a virus as deadly as COVID-19.

There have been over 80,000 deaths in the United States from Wuhan virus.

This a 4 year old article, but I think the Bishop is overstating things a bit.

The number of black people who killed whites and the number of whites who killed blacks climbed to levels not seen since 2008, accounting last year for their largest percentages of U.S. homicides of black and white victims since at least the start of the century, according to the crime data.
The statistics show that the 500 killings of white people attributed to blacks last year were the most since black perpetrators were determined to be responsible for the homicides of 504 white people nationwide in 2008. Last year's total was up 12 percent from the 446 recorded in 2014 and 22 percent from the 409 seen in 2013, a year that saw the lowest total this century and one that capped seven years of general declines in black-on-white homicides. Prior to that, 2006 saw the most black-on-white killings since 2001, with 573.
The 229 black lives taken by white killers last year, however, marked an even larger leap from 2014, jumping more than 22 percent from the 187 black victims killed by whites that year, which was the second-lowest total since 2001. The tally was last exceeded in 2008, when 230 blacks were slain by whites. The highest total in the last 15 years came in 2007, when 245 black people were killed by whites.

Father Z Speaks Up

This B as in B, S as in S.

Does this seem like targeting of churches to you?

From the Washington Examiner:

Illinois governor says churches may not fully reopen for a year or more because of coronavirus
It could be more than a year before churches are allowed to resume their in-person gatherings, according to Democratic Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker. [Whose family owns the Hyatt hotel chain and who is worth $3.4 billion.  He worked for Rahm Emanuel in Chicago and was co-chair of Hillary Clinton’s prez run in 2008.  In 2019 he repealed a law in Illinois that banned partial-birth abortion.  Big business abortion, Planned Parenthood backs him. He massively expanded gambling and cracked down on gun ownership in a state with an out of control murder rate by criminals who don’t obey gun laws.  He created a sanctuary state environment.  He signed an order ordering schools to be  “affirming and inclusive” of transgender and non-binary students.  He signed legislation legalizing recreational marijuna.  He works with the Gates Foundation.]

Pritzker announced a five-phase plan to reopen Illinois that gives guidance to schools, businesses, churches, and other religious centers about when they will be allowed to reopen. In phase three, gatherings of up to 10 people will be allowed. In phase four, gatherings of up to 50 people will be allowed. Gatherings of more than 50 people will not be allowed until phase five.

And By The Way

I never thought have anything nice to say about Bishop Cupich, but WELL DONE.

The Archdiocese of Chicago announced on May 1 that public Masses with 10 or fewer people would resume.

Other dioceses across the United States have already begun rolling back total suspensions on the public celebration of Mass.

Here's the headline from the Catholic News Agency:

Illinois Catholics long for 'normal life' after governor announces lockdown plan

The article mentions Springfield first, then Chicago.  Nothing about Belleville. Nothing.

Of course, Springfield has THE HOLY GOALIE.

They Sent Us a Virus and We Volunteered to Close Churches

.- As the Chinese government makes progress containing the COVID-19 pandemic, authorities have resumed action to remove crosses from buildings and crackdown on religious practice.

The latest round of enforcement actions have included the removal of crosses from buildings belonging to the state-run churches. According to a report from UCA News, priests say they are cooperating in the removal of exterior crosses in hopes that entire church buildings will not be demolished or converted into a building for secular use.

According to a parishioner in the Chinese province of Anhui named John, Chinese officials cut down the cross from the top of Our Lady of the Rosary Church on April 18. Our Lady of the Rosary belongs to the Chinese Patriotic Catholic Association (CPCA, the Catholic Church officially sanctioned by the Chinese Communist Party and operating both in communion with Rome and under state control.

The bishops of the CPCA, who were in many cases illicitly consecrated and under official excommunication, were received into full communion with Rome as part of the Vatican’s 2018 provisional agreement with China. The full terms of the China deal were not released to the public but have been reported to include the right of state authorities to propose and veto candidates for the episcopacy in China.

.- Mass unemployment is a deeply unwelcome background for this year’s Feast of Saint Joseph the Worker, but the Catholic celebration has lessons for everyone, regardless of job situation, according to two priests with expertise on St. Joseph and the dignity of work.

Citing the Holy Family’s escape to Egypt, devotional writer Father Donald Calloway said St. Joseph is “very empathetic” towards those suffering unemployment. Based on what?

Father Calloway and the Pope in a battle of wits

“He himself at some point would have been unemployed in the Flight to Egypt,” the priest told CNA. “They had to pack up everything and go to a foreign country with nothing. They didn’t plan on that.” They packed up everything and left with nothing?
