Humeral Veil

You may have noticed that on Corpus Christi, Father held the monstrance with his hands wrapped in a scarf like thing. That's called a humeral veil. It is usually white or gold, but may also be the liturgical color of the season.

Not Father Uriel. This is retired Cardinal Godfried Daniels of Belgium.

The humeral veil is not to be confused with the vimpa, which is narrower and worn by altar boys when the Bishop is present. The use it to cover their hands when the Bishop hands them the mitre or crosier.

The hat is the mitre; the staff is the crozier.

Altar Boy Cassocks

For the feast of Pentacost, the altar boys....er, servers....wore red cassocks. Is that OK? I just assumed it was, but here's what Father Z has to say about it:

"This is a matter of aesthetics.   Back in the day colored cassocks were tolerated by the Sacred Congregation for Rites.  To my mind it is a thing of fairly small importance."

I wonder what he would say about the boys from Our Lady of the Snows in (of all places) Sri Lanka?

I think it would be cool if they were discalced.
