An Important Day in the Faith!
Yes, of course it's the Annunciation. But it also marks the 750 anniversary of the finding of the incorrupted tongue of St. Anthony of Padua (who was not REALLY from Padua - he was from Portugal).
St. Anthony died in 1231. On this date in 1261, the dug up his crypt to move it to the altar of the new basilica in Padua, and when they opened it, (according to the site Canterbury Tales) "they found that the saint's body had been reduced to dust and bones, but his tongue was intact and life-like. This was taken a sign from God confirming the ardent gifts of preaching and teaching that Saint Anthony had enjoyed on earth. St. Bonaventure, who was present as minister general of the Friars Minor, took the tongue reverently into his hands and exclaimed,
"O blessed tongue, which has always blessed God and caused others to bless Him, now it appears evident how great were your merits before God!"They took the tongue and put in a sperate area of the basilica. So St. Anthony LOST HIS TONGUE! Who did he say a prayer to help find it? Himself???
