Islamic Outreach, Part XXIII

From an earlier post on this blog:

Pope Francis spoke to the diplomatic corps and amongst other things, said, "Hence it is important to intensify dialogue among the various religions, and I am thinking particularly of dialogue with Islam."

For reasons that are absolutely beyond me, the Miss World pageant is being held in Bali, Indonesia this year.

JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP)  -- Indonesian Muslim hard-liners staged a protest Tuesday in the country's capital to try to stop the holding of the Miss World pageant this weekend on the resort island of Bali.

They held up banners with "Reject Miss World that exploits women" and "Go to hell Miss World" on them, and shouted "Allah akbar," or God is great, outside the building, which was guarded by 300 police.

Last week, the Indonesian Ulema Council, the country's most influential clerics group, urged the government to cancel the event, saying the exposure of skin by women in such a competition violates Islamic teachings, even after organizers agreed to cut the bikini competition and instead outfit contestants in more conservative sarongs.
Meanwhile, The Israeli Women's Bridge team qualified to play in the World Championships being held in Bali, Indonesia but had to withdraw. The head of the Israeli Bridge Federation said,

"We requested the help of the WBF, who contacted the Indonesian authorities but this also resulted in a standard reply. We also repeatedly asked for contact details in order to discuss security issues. This request was repeatedly and completely ignored. Finally, about a month ago, we were told that we could obtain visas provided that we paid for the flight and expenses of two representatives of the Indonesian Bridge Federation to fly from Indonesia to Bangkok or Singapore where they would meet the Israelis and obtain visas for them."

What do you think of Jewish bridge players, angry Muslim guy?
