Travelocity Feast of St. Willibald, June 7
Remember a couple of days ago we learned about St. Boniface? He's related to St. Willibald. Do you know about St. Winebald and St Walburga? They were Willibald's brother and sister. He was a travelin' man - many believe him to be the first Brit to visit the Holy Land.
St. Willabald spent 10 years at Monte Cassino as sacrist and dean before Pope Gregory III sent him to help out his cousin, St. Boniface in Germany. The monastery on Monte Cassino was built by St. Benedict of Nursia in 529 and was the first Benedictine monastery. It stood majestically on the mountain until allied bombers did a little interior/exterior decoration in 1944, dropping 1,150 tons of high explosives and incendiary bombs on the abbey.
