Would You Rather Have....

Would you rather have angels in the outfield, or bishops in the dugout?

Feast of St. George

St. George is the patron saint of England, and is usually shown slaying a dragon. If it had been a flying dragon, you'd have to give St. Joseph of Cupertino a call.

Flying Priests (continued)

No, I didn't forget about St. Joseph of Cupertino. He wasn't a priest - he was a friar!

Flying nuns are a dime a dozen. But flying priests are rare. Now we know why.

Good Thing the Pope Didn't Swim in the East River

Posted by Picasa

"The NYPD's Harbor Unit, patrolling the East River near the United Nations as a part of security operations for the Pope's visit, rescued an apparently sick beaver from the water.

The ever-vigilant harbor cops spotted the animal, which appeared to be having trouble breathing and struggled to swim, not far from the U.N., where the Pope was speaking.

pulled it aboard, and placed it in a bucket with water. Officers brought the beaver to shore for transport to an animal hospital.

They did not say if they considered the animal to be a security risk.

But "it has pretty big claws," said Lt. John Harkins of the NYPD SCUBA Unit. He indicated the beaver was four feet long and about 40 pounds."

FOUR FEET LONG??? Wait a second...according to Wikipiedia, the average beaver grows to TWO feet long (and a tail that's 10 inches long). This must have been a GIANT beaver (and a very large bucket). The Giant beaver grew to EIGHT feet long - and has been extinct for 10,000 years.

It's a MIRACLE!

Earthquakes and Saints

You slept through it, didn't you? Not me. I woke up in time to think - who is the Patron Saint for protection against earthquakes?

Some say St. Emydius, some some say St. Gregory the Miracle Worker. I'll be ready next time...and there will be a next time. Just ask Luke:

"And there shall be great earthquakes in diverse places and pestilences and famines and terrors from heaven: and there shall be great signs."

Mary says...

...pray the rosary. Mother's Day and Father's Day are coming up, and it's time for you to buy a really, really nice rosary for them.

John Carroll

We've talked about him in class, and the Pope has nice things to say about him.

Pope Benedict will say Mass at Yankee Stadium, which I think is a mistake. He should say Mass at SHEA Stadium. home of my New York Mets. Why? Their starting line-up has a guy with a last name of Church and another guy whose first name is Angel. The fact that Angel's last name is Pagan shouldn't have anything to do with it.

By the way, the last post was my 400th post on this blog...that's a lot.

Never Disagree With Your Mom

I said the Pope would be going to Washington, New York, Baltimore and Boston. She said no, just Washington and New York.

I was wrong.

NEVER ARGUE WITH YOUR MOTHER!

Just Because It Made Me Laugh

Three Years Ago Today...

Pope John Paul II was buried. They had to bury him, because he was, well, dead. He's buried at the Vatican and you can see a live webcam of is tomb here.

Feast Day of St. Vincent Ferrer

St. Vincent Ferrer is the patron saint of builders, but not for the reason you think. He was born in Spain (1357) and was the son of St. Dominic. He eventually evangalized thought Spain, Germany, England, France, Italy, Flanders, Scotland and Ireland. He even was welcome in Grenada (the part of Spain conquered by the Muslims).

By converting so many to the Catholicism, he "built" the Church. Get it?

The photo is the interior of St. Vincent Ferrer Church located in Manhattan, NY.

Father Federico To Travel With the Pope!

No, REALLY!

"Father Federico Lombardi, the Vatican spokesman. Although Father Lombardi has gone on record as saying the pope doesn't really need a spokesman, the soft-spoken Jesuit has occasionally found himself explaining or fine-tuning papal remarks to reporters -- most notably after the pope's speech in Regensburg, Germany, in 2006. For the most part, Father Lombardi prefers to let the pope hold the spotlight and to let the pope's words speak for themselves."

That Reminds me....

Did the people in the start of the previous video look like this to you? Or is it just me?

A Welcome for the Pope! And a Quiz!

There are a lot of videos from various Catholic Churches welcoming the Pope to America. This is one of the better ones.

Your trivia question...count how many times is Jesus mentioned!
